Sunday devotional

Today in church the preacher talked about many things. But there was something he said that struck a chord in me.

He said bitterness is like drinking a poisonous drink and hoping someone else would die. When in truth you’re killing yourself.

The Bible talks about bitterness in Hebrews 12: 15

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

I’ve been chewing on what he said for a while and thinking about this scripture. We really need to be careful not to be bitter because it can be and hindrance for ourselves more than it is others(the ones that hurt us). We can’t let the things that people did to us keep us from being happy. Having your mind set on revenge or some happenstance that will teach them a lesson isn’t a good mindset. It doesn’t help us. It just makes us angry fustrated and hurt more. It causes us to build walls which keep other’s love away.

It numbs our senses and confuses the truths. If that person has hurt us we need to not allow them to hurt us anymore by dwelling on them. When we come across bitterness we need to let go and forgive as hard as it may be.

By forgiving them we show them love that they don’t deserve just like God shows us love everyday that we don’t deserve. By forgiving not only does it show God’s love but it grants ourselves love so that we can grow.

Happy Sunday!
